Hi Group

My house rabbit has taken to licking jam of toast and gets excited when she
knows I am going to have my breakfast. She started eating apricot but now
also eats raspberry and blackcurrant. The jam is 60% fruit but is safe for
her to eat jam regularly?

I'm glad you asked! No! Jam Has far too much sugar. Rabbits should
get NO sugar. Sugar is harmful to the rabbit's gut Rabbits have a
bacterial digestive system. Sugar will eventually shut down the rabbits
gut. This is extremely painful for the rabbit. Even expensive medical
care might not restart the rabbit's system and your rabbit might die.
Give your little one a piece of carrot instead.
Best wishes!

See Prof's answer, but:

Could you please make a picture or a video of this wonderful rabbit? I would
love to see it!
Maybe you can restrict it to one lick per day, followed by a more healthy
treat?

Unfortunately,,because of my stupidity,, i used to give my Miss bazy
animal crackers... i would give her a piece in the morning.. and
before you know it.. she was actually addicted.. NOT A PRETTY SITE..
its actually very sad when you have to wean them off of sugar. I only
give my Domino a teeny piece of banana when i get home from work..
They get to begging very quickly for the sweets. I give Dom mostly
some pellets, lots of greens, and tons of hay. I learned alot from my
friends here in this group.. Please take heed.
