I keep hearing that slinkie aka spring toys are good rabbit toys. I purchased
some am dubious about actually giving them to the rabbits unattended.

Does anyone use them as toys? Any reports of rabbits choking themselves with
one? Getting tangled and freaking out? I could just Mule hanging himself with a
slinkie. Obviously anyone who is a heavy chewer would not get one.

I purchased the tiny plastic 1 1/2 inch ones, they are about a stack 2 inches
high when not stretched, but only 1 1/2 inches aprox in diameter. (different
shapes, hearts, feet, squares, circles, etc.)

Plastic??? That's not a _real_ slinkie.

First off, it absolutely has to be plastic (which you apparently know :)
). I bought her two, one of the small ones, one of the large ones. She
can't get her head in the small one but she LOVES it. She plays with it
frequently, I have some really cute movies and when I'm not too lazy
I'll post them. The small one goes in her cage.

the full-sized one she also loves, but she only plays with that outside
of her cage, when I'm watching her. I was also afraid she would choke
herself on it.

But she enjoys both sizes. One of the best things is to stick a paper
towel roll core in a slinky, stretched on the ground so it's not easy to
get the cardboard roll out - Nibbler goes crazy playing with that! She
did once get tangled in the large one when she jumped from my bed into
it but she untangled herself pretty easily and didn't freak out at all.
Hope that helps!

I've had the same feeling about them, Angela. My pair have a slinky. The
toy is no danger to them, however, because they don't pay any attention to
it :( Their favorite toy continues to be a piece of cardboard. Quark also
likes hanging pieces of cloth that he can duck in and out of.

I am sure that I have read one report on here of a bunny becoming entangled in
one, and of the rabbit toys store that was bought from withdrawing them from
sale.
The small ones might be ok but since Toffee does his best to get himslelf
entangled in such things as the curly phone cord and caryer bag handles then I
would not risk one.

What do you do when you see an endangered animal eating an endangered plant?

Is there another word for synonym?

I have a regular-sized plastic slinky hanging over the pen, half in and
half out. The buns like it quite well and sometimes play with it for
minutes at a time. They have never grown tired of it.

I did see Orpheus get tangled in it once, and it was a little scary. He
somehow got his head caught. Fortunately I was right there and simply
freed him.

Because of the positioning, they couldn't easily hang themselves. But a
truly determined and panicked bunny could conceivably get tnagled enough
to strangle himself. It just doesn't seem that likely to me.

I also hung some of the size you describe on the sides of them pen.
They liked those, too, so well, they are now hopelessly interwoven with
the pen.

I would be concerned with the odd (non-round) shapes potential for
tangling and presenting a greater strangulation risk.

I got the mini slinkies for my buns. They loved them at first, but now my son
plays with them more than the buns do. The one great thing about having a baby
and bunnies is they can share toys!!!
